Christa Mierás: The first time I heard the Argentinian tango, was in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. “Tango Cuatro” with Carel Kraayenhof on the bandoneon. Juan Carlos Tajes sang. I lost my heart to this music in a split second. In 1998 one of my greatest dreams came true; meeting the legendary Maestro Horacio Salgán, pianist, arranger and performer. To see and hear him play in “Club del Vino” in Buenos Aires changed everything. I stayed at that time in “Hotel Victoria”, between Calle Chile and Chacabuco. In the patio were the dansers, preparing themselves for the night, going out dancing. In the street it felt like walking in an old movie; beautifull old, coloured buildings, the trees hanging as arches over the streets, the yellows cabs everywhere. And between all this nostalgia I saw an oldtimer with a little note on it: “Me venden”….”They sell me”….
In tango everything has a soul.
